SimCity 2000 is the successor to the ground breaking city simulation game Sim City. You are once again the mayor, but this time you can fully customize the terrain before building your city. The graphics are isometric, whereas the original had graphics displayed in a top-down fashion.

SimCity 2000 adds numerous features over the original such as the ability of building "light" zones, subways, hospitals, colleges, zoos, and arcos which are actually cities in cities. You can now give names to places, and your city is surrounded by neighboring towns with which you can make trade. Finally, instead of the poll in the first game you now have the option of reading several newspapers to get an idea of your progress.

Make sure to get DOSBox so that you can play DOS games in Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux easily!

When you're facing a psychiatric ward full of Elvis impersonators, you'll think you're the one who's going to need to lie down on a couch. While the attraction of casualty-style blood and guts is obviously there, the development team is keen to keep it to a minimum. All movements and animations are fluid; everything moves as it would be in real life. To add to the realism, other computer players are playing against you, creating and running their own hospitals; if you have access to a network, up to three other players can play. The network game is an all-out war: poaching staff from the other hospitals, balancing budgets, attracting your competitors' patients, and researching new cures and machines.

Then DOSBox appeared. DOSBox is completely free of charge and open source DOS emulator for modern operating systems like Windows (2000 and XP), BeOS, Linux, MacOS X.. . DOSBox also emulates 286/386 CPU real mode, Directory FileSystem/XMS/EMS, a SoundBlaster card (and others) for excellent sound compatibility with older games. There were a lot of problems in earlier versions, but now over a thousand games are supported, many of them are completely playable.
