Heya HOOfan1, First your doing a great job so far throwing out the info we may need and like you i am a newb too.

So anyway i will get right to the point i am having the same problem as maiden first though i already had dosbox to play warcraft 1 and when i unistalled it i reinstalled to play warcraft 2 so i could play it .

Anyway what i did at first was i setup dosbox to C:gameswarcraft-2
Then i extracted all the warcraft-2 files to the same location , but when i do this i can see any of the warcraft folders yet when i search for them i can see them . the same thing went on with warcraft one .

Anyway i couldn't get it setup like that cause i couldn't pull the exe. file for warcraft out to drop it over so i unitalled it again then just put the warcraft-2 folder and all files on my desktop and sent dosbox to it then i draged the warcraft-2 exe. file on top and i did c the msg with hybrid and pink colors then i hit enter and the dos screen comes up and it seems to be waiting of rmy command but i dont know waht to do from there.

Now also i can just click on the warcraft-2 exe. file whitout dosbox and the game runs but it runs very fast so i though dosbox would help with the speed rates for it since its cracked also the read me for the game is in dutch and i cant read that. put i can run the craked version of the game without no emulation (at least on the first level i haven't played for longer than that.

I am running on windows xp, 3400 processor, with a decent video card. i am using winrar and i have dosbox version 0.72 if ther eis anyone that can help me figure out what to do and how to set this up properly or help me decrease the speed whitout using a emulator then i would greatly appreciate it.

Ohh and before anyone asks i did toy around with the game prefences and options in game and it didnt help any my mouse shoots across the screen to quick to control anything.

for anyone who is interested, here's how i managed to get as far as i did. 1) downloaded the programme. 2) extracted all files into a new folder. 3) downloaded dosbox as described by HOOfan1 on 2nd august. 4) saved all dosbox files into the same new folder as warcraft. 5) dragged the war2.exe file into the dosbox.exe file. 6) followed onscreen instructions for setting up c directory. 7) pressed enter on the first screen that appeared. 8) waited a minuite or two til i got the click play screen. that's where i got stuck. i'm asked to insert CD. any advice on how to play without CD will be very welcome

i've downloaded and set everything up, but am asked to insert CD. i don't want to play the battle net version from the link provided by TNARICK. how do i get around the insert CD request

hey all, new problem here ... framerate is okay, but my mouse scroll speed is off the charts, it's too quick, everytime I move the mouse, I'm on another part of the map...quite annoying... I've already set my mouse speed to lowest (in-game options and in windows), but it stays the same...
Can I change this?

What Processor have you got Herabec? Hitting CTRL+F12 will make DOSbox utilize more process cycles.

I have been playing it on a Pentium M 1.7 Mhz and the units move at regular speed, although scrolling across the screen is a bit jerky, and sometimes it takes about 10-15 seconds to load a level.

I have had the game slow a bit when there are a ton of units, but not unplayably slow, just sort of annoying.

I've finally gotten WC2 to work, however the framerate is drastically low, even with speed set very high. Saddly, I havn't got the patience to wait for (literally) a minute for a single orc unit to move from one side of my encampment to another. Is there a way to speed up the game? I've already closed every program I possibly can.

Are you sure you extracted the files to all the right paths? Like I said earilier, you have to extract the files exactly as they are configured in the .RAR file. Winrar apparently by default will not extract files to full paths, but instead extracts them all to one fodler. The game will be looking for the files in specific folders. Look at the folder that you extracted Warcrat 2 to....does it contain sub-folders called DATA and DRIVERS?

You were right, I dragged the wrong icon but this time I dragged the good one and there's a screen that poped with some infos but there was nothing to do so I press enter then a dos screen pop saying "C:>". I never used dosbox so I don't know what I have to do.

OK from some experimentation I see what you did was you dragged the Shortcut for WAR2 into DOSbox...you need to drag the .exe file. You can find out which is the .exe file by going to tools, then folder options and clicking the view tab and then unchecking the option that says "hide extensions for known file types" then click ok. Or just make sure you drag the little icon that looks like a a tiny windows window that is all white inside. Do not drag the one that says MSDOS and has the little shortcut arrow at the bottom left corner.

I downloaded the dosbox of your link and also your warcraft but when I drag the iconWAR2.exe it says "Illegal command : WAR2.PIF." . I don't know if it's cause I extracted the file with IZArc instead of winRAR but I'd really enjoy playing this game again and i'm sure lots would too. Here is how to play the game-
OK first I am a newb at this and I simply signed up to help you guys, because I too had problems playing the game, but I finally came across the solution.
I tried several of the links below and couldn't get them to work.

1) When you hit extract in winRAR you need to hit the advanced tab and select extract all file paths...you will not need to hit the "intall.exe" file if you do this correctly.

2) At least as far as Windows XP goes, you will need to run this game through a DOS emulation program like DosBox....see below for link

3) Extracting the file correctly and using DOSbox will allow the game to run, but as far as the link below to fileplanet goes...and possibly some of the others, the game then asks for a CD key to play singleplayer.

you can also download DOSbox from that site <a href="http://www.bestoldgames.net/eng/dosbox/">Link</a> once you download DOSbox, read the readme.txt file, it will tell you how to configure DOSbox and how to get it to run better. Just for a quickstart guide drag the WAR2.exe (I believe this is the cracked version of the file) into the icon for DOSbox and it will start it up, then to get fullscreen just hit ALT+ENTER....if the game seems a bit slow, hit CTRL+F12 a few times.

I am sure that the reason the other cracked versions won't work has something to do with the WAR2.ini configuration file, but since I got a version to work I didn't bother...maybe later when I have more time I will fiddle with it.

As I said earlier, I am a newb, so if the HTML tags don't work, of if you want to say..."Well add your link to the downloads"...sorry, I just signed up and posted simply to help others get the file to work.

Finally I am hoping this is not considered pirating of the game, but since it is linked on several legit sites I am assuming that this is abaondonware and Blizzard just doesn't care. If Blizzard rereleases the game with Windows compatiblity, I for 1 will buy it and encourage others to as well.

I took the latest link this time, but i have the same problem. I'll try to explain what i do and say me what i do wrong.1st, I double click on the file.rar. 2cd, IZArc open and I click the instal's button. 3rd, war is installed in the folder GAMES. 4th, I go in the folder GAMES then, in the folder WC2 and then, there is 2 exe(WAR and TRAINER). 5th, when I double click on WAR, it says that there's an error. I've heard that we need DOSBOX to play to warcraft 2 but nobody said it in the comments.

I need help plz. I extracted the file, then i found the instaler in the DATA folder, then i install it (well i thing) and then i click on what i thing i supposed to be the executor (WAR2). There is a screen with some info that appears but there's nothing to do so i press enter. A DOS screan appears for 2-3 sec and then nothing... Also, when i install, i go where the files r installed and there is another exe.When i click on it, there's another Dos screan that appears but it say me that there's an error. Plz id need hlp cause i really want to play to this game again.

Can someone tell my why everytime i download this my itunes opens and nothing happens?
